Artists from Being Frank have worked with small groups of young men from Stoke On Heath Prison in Shropshire to create two dance films.
The action of being physical, close proximity and touch in a prison usually has negative connotations. Dance disputes those perceptions. In these environments we've seen individuals who were apathetic, distant and dishonest changed and have demonstrated previously unseen rigour, trust and a sense of worth.
“Being Frank have ran 7 large scale dance, film and photography projects in Shropshire which all have been really well received by funders, stakeholders, participants and audiences. The prison project that we ran at HMP Stoke On Heath became a flag ship project for the whole of Shropshire, they helped the rehabilitation of offenders improving their communication skills, health and mental well being. In partnership we have created two prison films and both of them are fantastic.”
